Meet Alexis — what I want clients to know before starting therapy

A personal, professional note on pace, honesty, and how we build safety before going deeper.

Starting therapy is a brave step. You might feel hopeful, skeptical, embarrassed, or all of the above—and that is normal. My job is not to rush you into disclosure or push a single method. It is to help you feel clear about what we are doing, why, and what you can expect along the way.

I work as a counselor and therapist—a licensed professional counselor (LPC). I am not a psychologist, and I do not present myself as one. What I offer is grounded, evidence-informed care with warmth and structure, whether you are working through anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, or major life transitions.

Before we go deep into hard material, we pay attention to safety: your supports, your coping tools, and what helps you feel regulated in daily life. Therapy should feel challenging at times, but it should not feel chaotic or shaming. If something is not working, I want you to say so. Good therapy is collaborative.

If you are in North Dakota, we can meet in person in Minot or work online when telehealth is appropriate. If you are in Colorado, I may be able to meet with you online depending on clinical fit and licensing considerations—we can discuss that in consultation.

If you are unsure whether this is the right fit, a free 15-minute consultation can be a low-pressure way to ask questions and sense whether my style matches what you need.
